Interpreting Results
Validity Status
The following results are returned in the 'valid' field across various sources.
Result | Definition |
valid | An email that has been positively confirmed with at least an SMTP check |
valid-risky | SMTP check returns 'catchall', but we were able to verify that the email account exists on the SSO/SAML identity provider tied to the email account (Okta, DuoSecurity, Outlook Server, etc). Your emails could bounce if the inbox exists but was been disabled by the admin.
These will have an average bounce rate under 5%; the exact bounce rate will depend on the turnover rate of the role you are targeting. Ex: less than 1% if the person you're targeting is in a position with low turnover (eg: VP) , less than <10% if the position has high turnover (ie: sales rep)
|
invalid | An email address that is positively confirmed to be invalid. Reasons include missing MX records, identity provider checks and SMTP checks |
unknown | Equivalent to 'catchall', this implies we were unable to positively or negatively verify if the address in question exists and/or is valid in any way. DNS records are correctly setup and there is a mail server response, but it is ambiguous. |
Additional Metadata
Two additional metadata fields are exposed for further clarity:
SMTP Verified: indicates we received a positive SMTP acknowledgement to one of multiple SMTP operations, such as SMTP tickle, sending a real email, etc.
Identity Verified: indicated we were able to verify a valid identity exists with the source IDP (Google, MSFT, Okta, DuoSecurity, etc)
